RealmgART: Billie Hawkins

Been a while, but here’s a first look at one of the characters from my next story.

Admittedly, it’s been a while since I’ve had the time and/or energy to sit down for some Art. And, well, I finally got it together, so here’s Billie Hawkins, one of the main characters of my next story Captain Goblinbeard, which I’m hoping to have ready in the early New Year.

A full body drawing of Billie Hawkins.
Art by me.

Billie was introduced in one of my Daily Writing exercises in August 2023, as Billie Bones, a reference to Treasure Island character Billy Bones, which I ended up feeling was too on-the-nose. Now, she’s a slightly more subtle reference, combining the initial reference with a reference to the novel’s protagonist Jim Hawkins.

For the most part, her character has remained consistent, though she’s gone from Captain Goblinbeard’s first mate to his … person being mentored — I struggle to find the phrasing to describe that, because “mentee” is largely a contrivance, given that “mentor” is ultimately a name (via Greek mythology), not a word describing a person doing an action.

That aside, she has remained the straight man to Goblinbeard’s, well … Goblinbeard.

Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of the forthcoming Captain Goblinbeard. And follow me here:
