I’ve mentioned before that my Music to Write Realmgard to post about the Byzantine-era Kontakion of the Mother of God is has been one of my best-performing posts ever, even though neither Byzantine history in general nor the Byzantine Church specifically are topics really related to what I blog about…
In fact, as I was writing this, the original post was my most-visited post for the day.
To brief summarise, the Kontakion was written to commemorate the breaking of the 626 siege on Constantinople, attributed to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose most common title in Greek is Theotokos, which can validly, if not precisely, be translated to “Mother of God.”
