The whole thing with her dad is: complicated
Lena Elizabeth Goblinbeard did not choose being named “Goblinbeard”. Being named “Goblinbeard” choose her.
Well, strictly speaking, her father choose being named “Goblinbeard” for the whole family…
Daughter of the infamous pirate Captain Goblinbeard — whose legal name is, indeed, “Captain Goblinbeard” takes to a change of name undertaken through the proper legal channels within the government of Porthaven — Lena has historical had a strained and complicated relationship with her father. This stems largely from Captain Goblinbeard’s frequent piratical voyages often taking him far from Lena and the rest of the family.
The relationship has only become more strained since Captain Goblinbeard name change legally changed the entire family name to “Goblinbeard”. Under the laws of Porthaven, Lena will not legally be able to change her name for herself until she turns 18.
Legal name notwithstanding, Lena lives a fairly unexceptional life in Porthaven and is, like most teenagers, working out the first steps of her imminent adult life.
