This in-progress version of Kat (Dunstana’s going to be in the finished one, too) actually started life as another, different picture of Kat, which itself started as an attempt on making her look like Shamir from Fire Emblem (that one is still forthcoming).

Also, Kat’s pose was originally based on an image on Wikipedia of Tokugawa Ieyasu after losing the Battle of Mikatagahara (scroll down to the “Tokugawa’s retreat” section).

As it stands now, this is mostly just an experiment in doing my colouring with Affinity’s Photo’s watercolour brushes. So far, it think it’s mostly working.

Also, the whole anime-esque, “default expression is eyes closed” look Kat’s got going on is the result of her eyes not being finished yet.

Also also, Kat’s current hair style and colour kinda have her looking like Nyamo from Azumanga Daioh (hey, who left this here?) and/or Misato from Evangelion, which you’ll no doubt remember as the anime where the main character is congratulated by a penguin — no, I’m not making that up; no, I don’t get it, either.

So, anyway, in-progress version now, done version eventually.
