I wanted to re-draw Kat, both because I’ve never really been entirely satisfied with any of my Kats so far, but also because I wanted one of her in a fairly neutral pose.

All in all, I think this is my my first drawing of one my characters approaching anything near “Good.”
I have a pretty clear mental image of what Kat looks like and what the key aspects of her Look are: the hair… thingies — they’re not “sideburns”, their loose strands of hair that aren’t included in her ponytail; the closest analogue is probably Kagura from Azumanga Daioh (though, notably, Tv Tropes does consider Kagura’s hair… thingies to be “Hot-Blooded Sideburns”).

Azumanga Daioh the Animation: J.C.Staff and Sentai Filmworks.
Ahem.
But, also, there’s the Adventuring Belt, which I’m basically drawing as Batman‘s Utility Belt. There’s also the triangular pattern on the edge of her sleeves and the hem of her shirt, which I mostly added just to make a beige shirt more visually interesting, but which has really grown on me.
I think this is the first time I’ve drawn Kat’s vest without a collar. I think I prefer the collar, but not to the point where it’s a necessary part of her Look like her hair… thingies.
Her proportions are probably a little wonky, but I think exaggerated, cartoony proportions suit the tone of Realmgard, and Kat is supposed to be a pretty long person.
It’s a little rough in terms of the line art and colouring, but I actually like how hand-drawn that makes it look.
Honestly, if I commission another drawing of Kat and/or Dunstana (incidentally), at this point, I would just use this a reference and go “Make this, but good.”
