Writing Every Day in November: Day 8

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate of Realmgard Daily Writing exercises…

So, in a way, this is the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate of Realmgard Daily Writing exercises, in that Everyone is Here.

Though not “Everyone”, so much “several callbacks all happen”…

Kat has previously met Alma and Akari. Twice. Axe the Blade has been a bad guy a couple times now. And Vera has an established habit of splashing water on people when threatened

“So, tell us about this Axe the Blade guy,” Prima asks Kat.

“Well, he’s about forty-seven feet tall, about as wide as a four-horse carriage. Big beard. Bunch of tattoos,” Kat begins. “And, um, he’s coming right at us.”

The colour drains from Prima’s face.

“He must have realised we stole his wallet,” she mutters.

“Who’s we?” Kat exclaims. “I’ve been minding my own business just eating this whole roast chicken!”

“Don’t worry,” Prima assures her new friend. “I have a plan.”

She turns to her sister.

“Quick, Vera! Do something!”

“Oh, uh,” the other Elf sister mutters, looking around desperately. “Oh, geez.”

She snatches up a class of water and splashes it on the advancing Axe the Blade.

“Why did you think that would work this time?” Prima exclaims.

“One day, I’m going to splash somebody who actually is water-soluble and it’s going to be awesome,” Vera insists.

“Start running!” Kat exclaims, grabbing the two Elf sisters by the arms and bolting.

They’re through the door and around the corner, desperately putting as much space between them and Axe the Blade as possible.

Kat is so pre-occupied running with Prima and Vera that she doesn’t even see the people coming around the same corner in the opposite direction.

Five bodies suddenly collide.

“Ow,” Kat groans, with Prima’s elbow in her face and Vera’s knee in her stomach.

“Here,” an oddly-familiar voice says. “Let me help you up.”

Kat accepts the hand being offered to her and pulls herself up to her feet.

“Wait,” the person that the hand belongs to says. “I know you.”

Kat winces, both with pain and with recognition.

“Ugh. I’m about to get exploded again…”

“Hey, Kat,” Prima asks as she helps her sister to her feet. “Who are your friends.”

“Well,” one of the two strangers says, “I am the Mistress of the Way of the Sword — Akari!”

“And, I,” the other one says, “the Lady of Explosion Magic — Alma!”

“Yeah,” Kat says. “We’ve met.”

“We haven’t,” Vera notes.

“Well, we don’t need to do the whole introduction again,” Akari says. “But I’m Akari —”

“And I’m Alma,” the other one adds.

“— and I supposed you’d call us mercenaries,” Akari concludes. “And we’ve met Kat a few times now.”

“I’m Prima,” the first Elf twin says.

“And I’m Vera,” the second says. “And we’re sort of in the middle of running for our lives.

Akari turns to her partner. “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” she asks.

“I think some evil-doer is about to get exploded,” Alma says.

“And I think,” Kat says, “I’m going to stand as far away from you as possible.”

She’s in no hurry to exploded. Again.

“You’re not going everywhere,” Axe the Blade says as he comes around the corner. “I’ve have unfinished business with you. With all of you in fact.”

She points to Prima and Vera.

“You two stole my wallet.”

He points to Alma and Akari.

“And you two exploded me.”

“Well, well, well,” Akari says, reaching for her sword. “Axe the Blade, we meet again.”
