I don’t have a lot of commentary for this one, other than to re-state that Sally likes biting people…
Sitting in on the Lyte Brigade’s latest strategy session, Sally Lyte studies the little figurines the Lyte Brigade is using to illustrate their latest strategies. Sally generously allowed them to use her very own chess pieces for their session, though she can’t help but notice that they’re using them wrong.
Watching Nolan talk and talk and talk. Sally gets bored.
“This is too much work, Nolan,” she notes. “You should just bite them.”
“We are not going to bite our enemies,” Nolan tells his little sister.
“And what happens if they’re wearing armour?” Pela asks.
Sally rolls her eyes. “Just bite them really hard,” she says. “It’s not hard.”
“Okay, so if we’re fighting a wizard,” Nolan ventures. “We’ll need to stop her —”
“Oh, yeah,” Matilda says indignantly. “Your evil wizard would be a woman.”
“W-What?” Nolan stammers. “I was just trying to be open-minded.”
He bashfully clears his throat.
“So, if we’re fighting a wizard, then we’ll need to stop the, um, wizard in question from casting any spells,” he says.
“Right,” Sally interjects. “So you bite him.”
She looks up at Matilda.
“Hey, Matilda, try to cast to a spell,” she urges.
“Absolutely not,” Matilda answers. “I’m not going to give you an excuse to bite me!”
She stares down at her sister.
“And you’d probably just bite me anyway.”
“Well, yeah,” Sally mutters.
And she promptly bites Matilda.
“Ow! Sally! Why are you like this?”
Sally relinquishes her sister’s arm from between her teeth.
“Okay, but, like, imagine how hard it would have been to cast a spell just now,” Sally notes.
“Ugh,” Matilda says, examining the teethmarks on her arm.
“Moving on,” Nolan says. “If we need to break up the enemy formation, we can —”
“Bite ‘em,” Sally says.
“And if one of us is every outnumbered in combat –”
“Bite ‘em,” Sally says.
She looks hopefully up at her brother.
“And if you need to make the other drop his sword, just bite him on the hand,” she explains. “If you want to stop him from running away, just bite him and don’t let ago.”
“We are not going to bite them, Sally,” Nolan protests. “We’ve got a specific strategy set up for all of those situations. And it does not involve biting people.”
“I like my idea better,” Sally mutters.
And then she promptly bites down on Tancred’s arm.
“Now, Miss Sally,” Tancred says, as the girl clings to him by the teeth like a remora. “While I agree with your brother that this isn’t strategically feasible, I must say, you’re biting technique is excellent. And your grip really is quite impressive.”
“Hnku,” Sally says into his arm.
“You can let go anytime you’d like, Miss Sally,” Tancred says hopefully.
She shakes her head.
Tancred sighs and elects to pretend that he doesn’t have a small child hanging by the teeth from his arm.
“Now, if I may,” he says, reaching for one of the chess pieces. “I’d like to suggest a strategy of my own…”
For a slight change of pace, I’m going to post the Weekly Recap tomorrow morning, where it will probably get more traction.
