Tomorrow: 30 Days of Natural History

Well, it’s about time for another 30 days of writing.

As you might remember from my Spring 2024 Writing Exercises, both the end of the month and the quarter snuck up on me…

Pro Wrestler Randy Orton delivering an RKO, captioned "not unlike a certain Randal Keith Orton" in reference to sneaking up on people.

…and it almost happened again. But, I managed to clue into the calendar in time and, well, it’s about time for another 30 days of writing.

I’m going to be doing something closer to my 30 Days of History from November 2022 and focusing on the Natural History of Realmgard (and the world of Terrace at large) this time around. It’ll help me nail down and canonise some of my worldbuilding — at least until I change my mind about it…

Quoth Wikipedia:

Natural history is a domain of inquiry involving organisms, including animals, fungi, and plants, in their natural environment, leaning more towards observational than experimental methods of study…

It involves the systematic study of any category of natural objects or organisms… it dates from studies in the ancient Greco-Roman world and the mediaeval Arabic world, through to European Renaissance naturalists [to] today’s natural history [which] is a cross-discipline umbrella of many specialty sciences.

Natural History is a pretty nebulous term and what exactly it is also varies based on the exact time period being referred to. For example, Natural History doesn’t necessarily include Geography, but also doesn’t not include Geography.

I’m going to being focusing primarily on the peoples (what other Fantasy worlds would call “races”) and wildlife of Realmgard and get more into the physical, geographical aspects of Realmgard (the continent) and Terrace (the planet) if there’s time.

Stayed tuned.
