The Midwood

While not located at the exact geographic centre of Realmgard, the forest known as the Midwood is fairly close to the exact middle of the continent, as well as being located more or less equally from Realmgard’s north and south extreme points. Thus, the Midwood is so named for its location in the middle of Realmgard.
While only the remnant of a much larger ancient forest greatly reduced by Human activities, the Midwood is still the largest forest in Realmgard by a significant margin and covers a significant area of central Realmgard.
Numerous Human settlements have been built around the edges of the Midwood and several have been founded within the forest itself. Several roads pass through the Midwood, though the depths of the forest are dense to the point of being impassable and the inner Midwood has not been thoroughly explored or surveyed. In turn, this has led to the rise of legends and tall tales of the strange creatures that supposedly dwell in the depths of the Midwood, including a strange animalistic forest guardian that speaks only in rhyme.
There’s no real inspiration here, beyond maybe Tolkien’s Mirkwood, but even then, really only to the extent that it’s a big forest…
