Coming Soon: 30 Days of Space

Space is (about to be) once again the place.

So, due to my never really buying into the concept, I am a little unclear on why people seem to have sworn off that November writing thing with a name I can never remember. There’s clearly some kind of controversy, but because I don’t pay attention to the source of the controversy in the first place, I’ve only gleaned bits and pieces of what the ongoing controversy is.

All of which is to say, I never liked the specific structure of November Writing Thing, but I do like the idea of periodically writing every day for a month, which I’ve tried to do once a quarter.

2024 was a bit of a whiff, but with the silver lining that it’s been because I’ve been busy with other work-related stuff taking my attention.

So, long story short, I’m going to be writing every day in November (or least trying to). And I’m going to be trying something I bit different this time around.

Several times for different Daily Writing Exercises, you may have noticed that I’ve done sort of parallel-universe, Realmgard-but-it’s-Space scenes that I’ve essentially described as what Warhammer 40,000 is to Regular Warhammer.

Incidentally, those scenes are here, here, and here.

You might also recall that I’ve said that I’d like to expand Realmgard-but-it’s-Space to a full-length story.

Which is my inspiration for what I’m doing this November.

I’m going to try to work on one continuous, if not coherent, narrative based on the Realmgard-but-it’s-Space setting by adding a section every day all month long. Now, this comes with the caveat that I’m not necessarily going to end the month with a full, complete narrative. I’m going to do at least 500 words a day, but I’m also not really plotting out much of the story ahead of time.

So, temper your expectations a little and be aware that this isn’t going to be my next story, so much as a first attempt at a first draft that will become a coherent story fit to be published eventually.

Honestly, the appeal here is going to be less the story itself and more that you’ll get to follow my process for a month.

That starts this Friday. Look forward to it.
