In the spirit of my last post, here are some of my most popular recent posts for you to revisit during my hiatus. And, um, I expect there’s more than a little overlap between the two lists…
10. Tales of the Sea: Santiana

Now, in part because the song fudges the details, I have a hard time telling if the song is supposed to be a sincere paean in praise of Santa Anna or a scathing satire of Santa Anna.
Though, of course, he’s been dead for nearly 150 years, so I feel like most present-day singers or listeners are just going to enjoy the song as a catchy tune.
Given that the actual Tales of the Sea Giveaway I was involved in ended basically I year ago, and I’ve posted several versions of this post since then, I’m not sure why the Tales of the Sea version specifically has been getting so much traction, but I guess people liked my commentary on 1800s sea shanties.
9. Spring 2025 Writing: Day 4

“So,” she asks. “We do you always have that umbrella with you? What are you going to do with another ship attacks us?”
Now, since my Spring 2025 Daily Writing Exercise corresponds to a decent chunk of the quarter, it’s no exactly shocking that you’re going to see a few of these on this list…
8. Spring 2025 Writing: Day 3

“Oh, sure,” ‘Gingham Gregory’ Rackman-Kowalski sighs in exasperation. “You maroon a group of teenagers on a horrible death island one time, and suddenly you’re the bad guy. There’s just no justice in the world.”
See?
7. Spring 2025 Writing: Day 2

Kat and Skadi both jump in surprise as Niamhgasps with sudden realisation. “Do you know what day it is?”
“M-Monday?” Kat asks.
“The, um…” Skadi offers. “… twenty-third?”
“It’s Trabled Day!” Niamh says. “That gives me the perfect idea.”
And again…
6. Spring 2025 Writing Exercises

I’ll be writing 500 words a day between now and Easter. This is the page where you can follow along between now and then.
To explain that reindeer, there’s no real connection to either the Spring season or the year 2025. It just happened to be one of the things that came up when I searched for “2025 images
5. Watch Recommendation: Pro Wrestling
Adrenaline in my soul/I changed the header image to Cody Rhodes.
The essence of drama is conflict. Wrestling is basically nothing but conflict. Ergo, Wrestling is the purest and truest form of drama. Q.E.D and so forth.
4. Spring 2025 Writing: Day 1

I will say that I’m not exactly shocked the first one has gotten the most views. That tends to be how these things go…
“So,” Kat says, her chin resting on the arms she’s folded on the table as she ponders the little chicken statue. “What is the deal with this things, Niamh? This is, like, the fourth time you’ve had to steal one of them.”
3. My Top Posts of 2024

As a freelance web writer, I do a lot of Top 10 lists. I’m now one step closer to my dream of doing “Top 10 Top 10 Lists.”
Number 5 may surprise you…
Throughout December, I’m counting down my top posts of the past year. Keep checking back every day for the updated list.
2. Music to Write Realmgard to: Kontakion of the Mother of God

My top two posts have been pretty consistently the same two posts. I’m not entirely sure why my post about the Kontakion of the Mother of God has been getting so much traction, but I have discovered it being cited as a source in various Reddit discussions, which is pretty flattering.
[T]he 626 siege of Constantinople came to be memorialised as a miraculous victory ultimately attributed to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Divine intervention and/or the intercession of Mary would also be credited for Byzantine victories in many of the later sieges on Constantinople in the following centuries.
1. Azumanga Daioh: Autistic Anime and Why It Matters

Fittingly, April is Autism Awareness Month, so I’m glad to have another chance to get some eyes on my write-up about the positive portrayal of autism in Azumanga Daioh. The original version of the post remains my best-ever performing post, though that’s at least partly because it’s also probably the post I’ve done the most to actively promote.
You belong.
Additionally, I’m going to be reposting the page linking to all of the chapters of each Realmgard story for the duration of my hiatus.
