30 Days of Mythology: Week 4 (plus a couple days)
Closing out a month of Mythology.
30 Days of Mythology: Day 30 — The Sublunar Realm
"The Sublunar Realm is the chaotic metaphysical plane of raw currents of magical and element forces said to be bounded by the more concrete and permanent spheres of Terrace and the Moon."
30 Days of Mythology: Day 29 — Sauvaherra and Tulva
"Two of the central figures in the best-known cycle of Aurorean folklore, Sauvaherra and Tulva are depicted as a pair of lovers who must overcome great adversity and calamity before finally getting their happy ending."
30 Days of Mythology: Day 28 — Lassflyja
" Lassflyja’s name is Hrimfaxi for something like 'She Who Slips Locks', referring to the fact that she is constantly portrayed as evading capture or imprisonment by her pursuers — again, most often vengeful giants, but occasionally the other gods when they have lost patience with her.
30 Days of Mythology: Day 27 — Raudfjall
"Aloof and hot-tempered, earthquakes and volcanoes are attributed to Raudfjall one way of another: either the echoing of his hammer sounding on his anvil in his subterranean forge deep in the heart of the earth, or else the outpouring of his fiery temper and indignation."
30 Days of Mythology: Day 26 — Bhela
"Perhaps because of his own prolific success where romance is concerned, Bhela is also venerated as the Hrimfaxi god of love and traditional Hrimfaxi wedding ceremonies take place at the feet of a statue in his likeness."
30 Days of Mythology: Day 25 — Vysa
"Generally depicted as a mature woman with grey or greying hair, Vysa is often described — and portrayed in visual artistic depictions — as either blindfolded or with blind (and sometimes even missing) eyes, representing that the goddess’ greatest strength is her knowledge of magical secrets not widely known to mortals."
30 Days of Mythology: Day 24 — Thonadis
"Depicted as a young, hot-headed woman with long golden hair and a large golden axe, Thonadis is said to travel across the sky in a chariot pulled by boars to do mighty battle with the Giants — the longtime enemies of the gods in Hrimfaxi mythology. Thunder and lightning are said to be the sign of these battles, Thonadis’ golden axe flashing and falling as she sets to her grim work."
30 Days of Mythology: Day 23 — Skana and Skata
"Held to be twin sisters, though not known to be the children of any other Realmgardian deity, Skana and Skata are the goddess of the Sun and daytime (Skana) and the Moon and nighttime (Skata)."
