Nainen’s Lamp

“Nainen’s Lamp” is a poetic term used in Aurora to refer to the Moon. Due to its impressive size and luminosity — said to produce its own light — the name is shared by the large diamond included among the Aurorean Crown Jewels.
In fact, Nainen’s Lamp is largest known diamond in Realmgard and remains one of the most famous individual gemstones in the continent.
Due to this connection with Aurora’s patron goddess, the diamond is seen as representing the Aurorean royal family’s divine favour and mandate from the goddess Nainen.
The early history of Nainen’s Lamp is unclear, though the most common version hold that the diamond was plundered at some point by the warlord Auriwandalo during his conquests of Aurora and was in turn captured by the Aurorean armies after Auriwandalo’s defeat and the re-establishment of Aurorean independence.
What is established historical fact is that the diamond was added to the Aurorean treasury at some point around Auriwandalo’s defeat and was almost immediately associated with the goddess Nainen.
Now, Nainen’s Lamp is one of the most important pieces of the Aurorean regalia and Crown Jewels. While the diamond sees little functional use outside the coronation of Aurorean monarchs, it is nevertheless one of the most revered treasures in the kingdom.
I’ve established that “Nainen’s Lamp” means “Moon” from pretty much the first moment I introduced Nainen into my world-building. So, it seemed like a good name for a big, shiny diamond significant to Aurora.
I was tangentially inspired by the Hope Diamond, but really only to the extent of “world’s most famous diamond.” Notably, the Hope Diamond is famously reputed to be cursed, which isn’t something I decided to do with Nainen’s Lamp.
