June 2025 Realmgard Short Scenes: Day 22

Matilda Lyte vs. a beautiful man from Yamatai, part 2.

Yesterday saw the third week of June done and dusted, so I posted the recap for the week earlier today.

I introduced the Nobuyuki character in a previous Short Scene, especially him as the son of Yamatai (which is Realmgard-Japan) diplomats in Realmgard and as somebody that Matilda’s got it bad for, which seems to be a family thing, because one of the most secure ideas I have for a world that generally plays pretty fast and loose with canon is that Nolan’s also got it bad for Amara.

Now, to be fair, she’s likewise got it bad for Nolan…

Fittingly, I’ve recently being playing Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, which is both set in Fantasy-Japan and features a cast of characters who are basically 100% absolute babes.

Shaken, exhausted, but no longer on fire, the six members of the Lyte Brigade sit slumped on their table in the corner of the Lyte family’s pub after their latest adventure — really more of a mis-adventure, in fact.

Accompanying Nobuyuki the visiting swordsman from Yamatai as he documents the natural phenomena of Realmgard to be compiled and sent back to interested readers in his homeland, the Lyte Brigade ran afoul of a dragon.

And it was a near thing, their fight with the dragon, though the Lyte Brigade and their samurai companion did manage to emerge victorious thanks to a lot of frantic teamwork and desperate stratagems.

For her part, Falcata is feeling quiet energised and content after a bracing combat with such a worthy foe.

“I can’t believe it!” Pela cries, looking up at her towering Amazon friend, hugging a comforting blanket around herself. “You’re smiling! You’re happy about this!”

Falcata nods and wipes a tear of joy from her eye. “I’ve dreamed about fighting a Dragon since I was three weeks old.

Looking on and compiling his notes for his account of the day, Nobuyuki mutters to himself as he writes, “The Amazons of Realmgard are the deadliest beings on the continent, able to slay dragons with ease.”

“I did not slay such a noble creature!” Falcata protests. “I merely asserted my rights to what it had claimed as its territory and drove it away.

“They follow strange and bewildering customs,” Nobuyuki continues.

The samurai yawns and puts down his pen. “This was the most tiring day I’ve ever lived through since the Battle of Sentohara.” He smiles tiredly at the Lyte Brigade. “But I thank you for your aid and support. Truly.”

“Oh,” Matilda says, blushing at the sight of the samurai’s smile. “It was our pleasure. I — I mean we — would never let a dragon eat such a gorgeous — I mean, um… hot, I mean, um lovely… you know, personality-wise…”

She coughs into her elbow.

“Happy to help,” she mutters, gazing away from Nobuyuki. “But, like, if you’d like to make it up to us, well, me specifically — in the person of Matilda Mariposa Lyte, you could always take me out to…”

Her voice trails off as she directs her gaze back to him.

“…Aaaand you’re asleep.”

“Oh no,” the samurai murmurs into surface of the table. “We must save Hime-sama!”

Exhausted by the events of the day, the samurai has fallen asleep sprawled across the table.

“Wow,” Matilda mutters as she gazes on. “He’s a babe even when he’s drooling.”

“Look out, Hime-sama!”

Pela looks back up at Falcata and beckons for the Amazon to lean in close.

“They must be related,” the Half-Goblin notes. “That’s exactly how Nolan looks at Amara when he thinks nobody would notice.”

“It is not!” Matilda, Nolan, and Amara cry all at once.

“It is a little,” Tancred mutters as Pela and Falcata nod in agreement.

Meanwhile, Nobuyuki continues his dream-quest to save Hime-sama.

“It’s a trap! Save me from Hime-sama!”

I’m not sure if “Sentohara” is accurate Japanese for “battlefield,” but it’s the words for battle and field. The phrase Battle of Battle Field really tickles my sense of humour, and it’s really something I need to write about at some point…

“Hime-sama” is the Japanese word for princess, combined with a Japanese honorific indicating a high level of respect.

And then Nobuyki basically got Wee Turtles’d
