Book Recommendation: The Chronicles of Prydain

TL;DR: Like Welsh Lord of the Rings.

So, I’m going a bit out of the established order of my Pop Culture recommendations that I’ve been reposting on my Substack page, but that’s because my recommendation of the Chronicles of Prydain books has become rather relevant to recent interactions I’ve had right here on Substack.

Long story short, another Substack writer, Meagan, actually cited my Prydain recommendation in a post.

And that was a bit of a moment, because I’m pretty sure that’s the first I’ve ever been cited with any semblance of authority or credibility.

Chronicling (apologies for the pun), so to speak, the story of an orphan boy, a magic pig, a princess fond of strange metaphors, a woebegone forest creaturea bored petty king moonlighting as a bard fond of egregious self-promotion, with support from a fairly archetypal old, wise sorcerer type and Prydain’s answer to AragornThe Chronicles or Prydain could — like I just said — be glibly and uncharitably, though not entirely inaccurately, described as “Welsh Lord of the Rings.”
