I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned at least a few times by now that I’ve tried to do an exercise where I write at least 500 words every day for a month. Up to now, those have all happened over on Realmgard.
Incidentally, you can check all those out here. They’re currently a bit of a mess, since I’m (very gradually) revising and standardising all of the entries. If you’re wondering why there appear to be several months missing, that’s because there are several of the month-long projects that don’t really fit under the “Short Scenes” format.
All of which is to say, since this is the first quarter I’m due to, um, do another month-long writing exercise where my Patreon and Substack are at least kinda-sorta established, this month’s writing is not going to be a Realmgard thing.
In fact, one of the things I’ve wanted to write for a while now is an apologetically straight-up Dungeons & Dragons-style adventure story – spurred on at least a little by the fact that I’ll be presenting my D&D character seminar at least twice in October and also because I recently reposted about very D&D-style media when I posted about Slayers, Rune Soldier, Lodoss War, and Dragon’s Crown.
Admittedly, I’m not entirely sure where I’m going with this, but I do have at least a vague notion of who the main cast is going to be. To help me and to perhaps make the whole project a little less abrupt for my readers, throughout the rest of September, I’m going to be doing what I’m calling Character Sketches that will introduce the characters, at least at their most basic. I anticipate they’ll grow and change as October goes on.
Now, the important logistical thing for you to be aware of is that I’m going to primarily be doing this on Patreon, since I’m hoping it’ll be enough incentive for people to sign up to my paid tiers to follow along.
At present, I thinking the first week will be posted for free, and the rest of the month will be exclusive to paid subscribers – for now, at least, I do plan to release all my writing to the general public eventually.
Stay tuned and check back here on October
