Space is once again the place!
Also, yes, I did just establish that my books exist in the fictional world of my books…
“Why are there Alvaraeans in this book?” Amarantha asks. “It predates First Contact. It predates you even getting to the Moon.”
She sets the book down on the table in the Bradamante’s living area, coming precariously close to upsetting Katalina’s carefully laid-out Osirian Sepulchrite tactical wargaming miniatures – which are in no way, shape, or form, toys, thank you very much – including the limited edition Seqenen-Rho the Assayer equipped with the Astrochalcum War Crown.
As she snatches away her precious little skeleton-robots, Katalina’s gaze curiously falls upon the book. It’s definitely old, probably even vintage. It’s made of ink and paper instead of ones and zeroes feed into a computer.
“How do you figure?” Katalina asks.
“This L’rea character!” Amarantha says, sounding genuinely upset. “She’s skilled in magic, her people are the oldest and most powerful in the world. She has pointy ears!”
At this, Amarantha’s own prominent, pointy ears twitch with indignation.
“Now, granted, she has excellent taste in men,” the Alvaraean princess concedes. “But she is clearly an Alvaraean! So, I ask you, Captain. How did a book written in the 2020s know about my people?”
