August 2022 is the third month where I wrote a 500 scene every day. There were months I wrote something every day, but because it wasn’t narrative scenes, they’re not included on my lists of Short Scenes.
Check out the results below.
Week 1
Day 1: Enter, Dude Manguy

“One, that moustache is obviously fake,” the doorman says. “Two, if the Baron were expecting you, I’d know about it. And three, you’re clearly those two kids from before hiding in a trench coat!”
Day 2: Just Like That One Kenny Rogers Song
You Know the One…

“Are you teaching my sister to gamble?” Kat exclaims.
“Actually,” one of the Baron’s guards says, looking up from their card game. “I think she’s teaching us!”
“She’s won every single hand,” the other guard moans.
Day 3: Defined As ‘a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.’

“Well, good news, Kitty-Kat,” Scarlet tells Kat. “There’s no such thing as a love potion.”
“Yeah,” Kat counters, “but —” She gestures broadly at the hysterically sobbing Elf clinging to her arm.
Day 4: #SubLunarRealm

“Mom!” Tenebella groans. “You’re embarrassing me in front of the Sublunar Deities!”
Day 5: Ain’t No Party Like a Slumber Party

“Why, yes, Countess-Dowager Dirigible, the amuse-bouches are to die for”, Amara murmurs in her sleep, latched immovably onto Kat’s left arm.
Day 6: Gesta Sandovechii

“Why are they called sandwiches?” Dunstana asks. “They’re not made of sand!”
“Or witches,” Sally notes.
“I know!” Dunstana says. “It’s weird! They should be called, like, bread-hugs, or something. Who thinks up these names?”
Day 7: Man, a Lot of These Ended Up Being About Food…

“It’s a cake!” Nolan exclaims.
“It’s a pie!” Matilda counters, jockeying for position against her brother.
“Actually,” Pela interjects. “It’s a quiche.”
Week 2
Day 8: The debut of Captain Goblinbeard

“Arr,” the Gobin pirate declares piratically to the point of stereotype. “It be I! The yarest and halest pirate captain what ever was — me most magnificent and splendiferous self: the famous Captain Goblinbeard!”
A thoroughly unimpressed Dunstana stares back at her new rival, for the first time in her career facing down a pirate more or less her own size.
“Your name is Goblinbeard?” she exclaims. “You don’t even have a beard!”
Day 9: The Hall of The Mountain Toad
… though it’s less of a “Hall”, and really more of a “Mountain”

Soon, the hills are echoing with the thunder croaking of dozens of angered Mountain Toads
Day 10: Weasel, Girl, and Weasel-Girl

“How lovely!” she exclaims. “He likes you, Miss Darkstone! Sebastian isn’t usually so affectionate with strangers!”
Day 11: Goblinbeard’s Daughter

“And how do you think I feel about my name being Goblinbeard?”
Day 12: P(ie)arty People

“Oh, this?” Matilda answers. “It’s a steak —”
“Oh!” Nolan says.
“ — and kidney pie,” Matilda continues.
“Oh,” Nolan says.
Day 13: To Be Fair, They ARE Very Similar Languages…

“Let’s see. Natalian. Natalian. Uh. Je m’appelle — no. Mein Name ist — no. Wǒ de míngzi shì — no.” He glances at his sister. “Alda! Help!”
Day 14: The Alchemist of Middlesbrooke Meets the Gal-Chemist of Middlesbrooke
(actually, she’s from Chevaliers)

“Oh, sweet Capitolina, no. There’s two of them!”
Week 3
Day 15: The Yurt Locker

Anneliese’s life as a junior member of the Wolf Knights has changed her life in many ways, and taken her further from home than she’s ever been before.
And yet, even beneath the endless sky of the great, vast plains of north-central Realmgard, some things never change.
Day 16: Amara vs. Coat of Plates

“Where are the rest of her clothes?” Amara asks, blushing fiercely. “Is she adventuring to the beach?”
She rolls her eyes.
“How vulgar. Clearly, this game was created by a man.”
Day 17: Amara Valda, Closet Nerd

“And, well — bizarre, scandalous fashion choices aside, Krimson Katja is rather a remarkable woman, strong and fierce and independent and never in need of a man to rescue her,” Amara explains.
“And good at chopping Sea-Fiends into little pieces?” Kat offers.
“Well, yes,” Amara says with a nod. “It’s all quite thrilling. Such lavish language and striking turns of phrase!”
Day 18: Amara vs. Gender-Based Double Standards

“Look at this!” she exclaims. “Look! Of course, the man is wearing an entire suit of armour! I swear, I shall be writing letters over this. I am going to find the people behind this game — all of them men, no doubt — and give them a piece of my mind!”
Day 19: But Aren’t Gingham and Plaid Just the Same Thing?

“Can’t talk,” Matilda says bluntly. “Need money.”
