Realmgard Short Scenes: The Family Darkstone

You’ve already met Kat and Dunstana. Now’s your chance to meet the other of the Darkstones in and around Porthaven.

I’ve recently begun the process of rewriting and reorganising my Realmgard Short Scenes. And with that in mind, I’ll be closing out 2025 by posting one of the new pages of scenes, rather than an individual scene each Monday.

That’s partly because there was no real rhyme or reason to them before and I posted them in the order I wrote them while doing my quarterly month-long daily writing. I’m now trying to group them by theme or character.

Also, I’m hoping in the early New Year to start rolling out audio versions of the Realmgard Short Scenes. Those will go live on my Patreon page, exclusive to paid subscribers, but will eventually get posted here, along with the occasional free preview of the audio scenes to try to get people to sign up to the Patreon.

Since the primary Realmgard Short Scene page now prioritises Kat and Dunstana, this first batch I’ve added helps flesh out the rest of the Darkstones a little.

Why does an opera take five hours? Why was everyone singing all the time? Why couldn’t they just talk?

Why did everybody die at the end?

“And why is it Hal…pert Circle-Guy’s day today?”

“It was originally established to commemorate the Hrimfaxi Mercantile Association getting formal approval from the Prince.”

“Why are they called sandwiches? They’re not made of sand!”

“Or witches.”

“I know! It’s weird! They should be called, like, bread-hugs, or something. Who thinks up these names?”
